Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25 mm f/1.4 ASPH

Anyone use one of these? I could do with a fast lens to shoot kids with indoors, just cannot get on with flash, too much faffing about.

Yep, but I don't think I can help you as I don't do much "kids indoors" type of shooting. I do really like the lens though and use it quite a lot. The lens hood is weird, it doesn't fit on backwards for storage.

Not had any experience of the lens so can't help there.

Now with flash just remember the Aperture controls the flash, the Shutter controls the ambient light and the ISO controls the light globally. Indoors always bounce the light from the ceiling or walls as the bigger the light-source the softer the light and shadows, plus with children running around there is usually very little room for light stands etc.

Sorry Tom but how does the Aperture control the flash? Aperture and Shutter Speed control light to the sensor Through The Lens - TTL control of flashes is based on the same thing is that what you mean?

The Leica 25mm is a fine, fast lens which will work very well in low light combined with the high ISO capability of the OM-D or new Pens. Many of my Panny owning friends swear by it.

It's a good lens. Very sharp, good wide aperture. However, it's not an Olympus and to my eyes lacks that indefinable "sparkle" that most Zuikos have.

I very much like mine, pretty sharp in the centre wide open, sharper still when you stop down a little and by around f/2.8 it's extremely sharp across the frame.
The Lens is a little bulky but sits just fine with the E-M5.

Sorry Tom I don't have time to read now, but if its anything along the lines of the speed of the flash is so fast that its only the aperture that lets light in not the length of the shutter opening that's obvious of course - but that isn't the aperture controlling the flash- either you do or the camera does, not just the aperture you set. That's the way I shoot transcribed into words, can't paint a picture in here unfortunately.
