  • Strap rings - does anyone remove these, how easy?

I've got out of the habit for now of attaching a neck strap to the cameras - E-M1 MkII and now MkIII.

I just attach a sling strap to the tripod socket on the camera or the big lens foots.

But these strap rings rattle in an annoying way, although they are covered in plastic.

Does anyone remove them and how easy is it?

I feel I will gouge myself or the camera if I try to remove them with a tool or might even break the lugs off. Another option is to maybe tie some material through the loops that stops them rattling.

I have removed mine from the E-M1 Mkii, the plastic part just clips off and then the other part is like a triangular keyring. They can be a bit tight, but nothing bad has happened when I have removed them or put them back on most of my MFT camera bodies.

I have removed them from mine it isnt that difficult if you use some small pliers. I have them saved in the camera box for when I sell it on. I use a wrist strap that attaches to one of the strap stubs that are part of the body.

Do the peak design lollipops fit through the eyelet that remains after removal?

I tried it with the most up to date version of the PD lollipops. They are a tad too big for the eyelets. I also failed to notice that the strap rings are at 90 degrees compared to the eyelets. The strap rings allow the PD lollipops to point in their natural direction. Decided to keep the strap rings (although they do rattle around) Worth a play to see though. Everyone has a different point of view/preference.

Incidentally removing the rings needs no tool just a finger nail. Putting them back on I recommend using a slotted screwdriver with a gradient as it will not over stretch the ring, which a plier may do.

My PD strap came with some smaller oval shaped rings with a small plastic splitter that goes on the ring, just took the original ones off and put the smaller ones on.

Just watch out if you use the Capture Clip, bottom plate can crack with one of those attached

Thanks I noted that before I bought the strap. I checked with Olympus and they said that the tripod mount was for tripods only - not for supporting cameras with large lenses attached!

I am happy with the strap used conventionally.

Those Peak Design straps look good - how secure are they, are they prone to accidental release and do they have any metal parts that can scratch up the camera or lens when thrown in a bag together?

I am looking at this one:

The anchors lock in place, I haven't them come undone there are no metal parts to scratch the camera body. I tend to take the strap off when i put my camera in the bag.

I just have the cuff. Excellent just in case you let go of your camera, but very compact. I will eventually purchase the slide lite. There are a couple of good comparisons on you tube between the slide and lite version. The lite is closest to the width of the bundled Olympus strap where as the normal slide is wider. Probably more suited to full frame cameras.
In terms of the attachment to camera or lollipops they are very very strong you can 100% trust them and also a doddle to remove any strap from the camera. They have never accidentally released on me. Not sure how possible it would be to accidentally release them as the natural mechanism pretty much takes care of this. You Tube sold the whole peak design concept pretty quick to me. Agree with rsh1960 generally remove strap after each use.
