Opinions / Advice Needed - About To Buy E-520 or E620.

Hi.

I hope no-one takes offence or is bothered by me asking this, given that I'm showing interest in cameras offered for sale on here. No offence intended to anyone - I just need some opininions/words of advice regarding the choice I have.

As mentioned elsewhere, my primary need to step up from E-410 + 40-150 is that I need longer reach from my lens. The 70-300 suits perfectly because of price. Virtually all my shooting is hand-held, so IS seems really attractive to me.

There are used E-620s & E-520s for sale on here & elsewhere, and one used 70-300 for sale (with an E-520).

I'd been set on an E-620 up to this point, and figured I'd get a 70-300 later, but used 70-300s don't seem to come up too often, so an E-520 with a 70-300 seems a good option.

But I can't help feeling I should just hold out for an E-620.

Other options are flitting round my head too, but I'm not really a wheeler-dealer, and don't necessarily want to be buying loads of stuff and selling on what I don't really want - it's hassle, and I wouldn't want to irk folk on here either - great forum, I'm sticking with Oly, so I want to be able to continue to visit in comfort, so to speak.

Paranoid? Me? Nah...

Haha! Offence? Your question is one of the many reasons this site was created to help answer - we are at your service!

The E-620 is a big step forward in specification from the E-520, so I personally would hang on for an E-620. For starters:

12MP versus 10MP but more importantly the next generation of TruePIC image processing engine.

• ISO range up to 3200 instead of 1600
• Articulating screen
• 7 AF points instead of just 3
• Larger optical viewfinder view
• Optional power grip available
• Art filters
• More compact
• Illuminated controls for lowlight work

I have both bodies and totally agree with Ian.

In addition to this I would like to add:

• The 620 LCD is clearer
• The ISO sensitivity can be adjusted in 1/3 steps on the E620 vs. full steps only on the E520
• The 620 has support for calibrating the AF accurracy (front/back focus)

This said, the E520 is a still a nice camera.

Don't overlook the E-600! It's about 99.9% the same as an E-620, but is frequently a LOT cheaper.
And as you probably already know the E-600/620 are poor man' E-30.

Another vote for the E-620/600. Although the E-520 is a great camera, the E-620 is a generation better - some say it's what the step up from the E-510 should have been.
