  • Arca Swiss Plate for OM1 MkII

    Hi all,

I am looking for recommendations for a Arca Swiss plate for my OM1 MkII. My other Olympus cameras have the Arca Swiss functionality built into the hand grips, so OK with those. What I don't want is to block the battery compartment. Cost not really an issue, quality & functionality (i.e. doesn't slip when in use) is my main concern.

    Many thanks,

    Martin.

I bought a cheap one from Amazon and it works very well. Battery access is not impeded and the quality seems fine. There's some slight movement when it's mounted, but I think this is the limitation of having only the tripod mount to secure it. It's not a lot though and doesn't get in the way of a secure mounting for the camera. I think this is the one:

Thanks Paul. After some research I have settled on a Peak Design plate as I can use this as an alternative anchor point for my PD strap. Martin.

I really fancy one of these just to add a little thickness to the base, but for the base plate alone it's £100 delivered, it does look the dog's though.

When fitted with the 12-100 a little more thickness would be nice.

        Any comments welcome.

That looks interesting for anyone who prefers a slightly chunkier feel without the size/cost of the HLD9.

$80 (£60) according the the link. Postage can't be that much. I am tempted.

In my experience postage from RRS will add at least another $60 and you will be charged import duty (probably an additional $20)!
RRS usually include a glossy A4 sized product catalogue in their packaging and the weight of this item is many times that of the plate you are buying - hence the expensive overseas shipping charge

I use the tiny RRS B6 plate (shimmed with a piece of bike inner tube - in order that the lip on the plate doesn't restrict the LCD movement). It is rock solid and works well. I bought the B6 from an online European camera store - shipping was very cheap and no import tax
When I need to use bigger lens e.g the 300mm f4 or the 40~150 f2.8 on a tripod I use an Arca plate on the lens foot.
