  • Battery Terminal Caps/Covers

I recently bought a couple of 3rd party BLS-50 clone batteries (Baxxtar and Dot.Foto) from Amazon, which arrived with clear plastic caps; as shown on this photo of one on an Olympus BLS-50.

Whilst I have some quite expensive hard plastic hinged lid "generic" waterproof cases by JJC, I like the idea of having some more of these plastic caps for BLS-50 and BLN-1 batteries, so that I can carry one or two in my coat pockets.

I've searched all over the web for these caps, but I can't see any source for them. I guess that they're specifically made for shipping Li-Ion batteries.

Does anyone know of a source for exactly this type of cap?

I can never remember which battery is which, but if the BLN-1 is the one for the original E-M5 and E-M1, our forum friend Beagletorque designed and 3-D printed some holders for them which work very well.

Thanks for the information. I want to obtain some for the BLN-1 (Pen F, EM5MkII) and also some for my BLS-50 OM10MkII (wish they'd stuck with the same battery across the range, but, heigh-ho).

      I'll follow this up.

        Here is Beagletorque's original thread:

Batteries, eye cups, power grips, straps, eyepiece magnifiers, cables, remotes and much more.

I have no idea whether he is still able/willing to make them, but I ordered a few and found them really good.

If you fancy a go at DIY, obtain a pack of Sugru in whatever colour takes your fancy and mould some up around your battery. Be sure to use a release agent though or you will have one heck of a job removing it after it sets!

The benefits of original formula + family friendly formula = the best Sugru ever!

          I bought some at B&Q.

Thanks. I bought some Sugru a while ago for another project, and when I hauled it out of the drawer I saw that it had a BB date long gone. Still, it seems to work OK.

Meanwhile, I contacted the people on Amazon from whom I bought the 3rd party batteries and asked them if they could supply spares of these caps for both my Oly battery types (since they sell both) and they're due to come back to me.

It's all a bit of a mystery, to be honest. These caps are the recommended type for covering the terminals on Li-Ion batteries during shipment, and they must come from somewhere, since I presume the Amazon sellers can't be the only people in the whole wide world sending out batteries with these covers. I can't work out why I can't see any for sale, despite scouring the web for them.

Thanks for the help so far, and I'll report back any developments.

You can make a 'Sugru' substitute by mixing talcum powder with silicone. I had a try some while ago and it worked OK.

I think I may have cracked how to find it?

That looks to be a handy solution, and not too pricey either.

I had a reply back from the Amazon 3rd party battery sellers regarding the clear caps, and that's essentially "sorry, no can do".

Still leaves me with the conundrum that these are made by someone and come from somewhere, but who?

Thanks to all for the various suggestions and advice.
