  • 12-40 lens cap

The original 62mm lens cap that came with my 12-40 Pro lens is a quality bit of kit. However I have often found it quite fiddly to attach to the lens quickly and securely. I have dropped it a couple of times after thinking it was fitted properly. The last time it dropped off it was onto rocks which caused a bit of unsightly damage to one of the pinch levers. A new one from Olympus UK is £17 and typically $11.95 in the USA.
Anyway I bought one of these from Ebay for £1.68 delivered.

It arrived this morning and I have to say I'm really impressed. It's so much easier to fit and it has a long elastic lanyard to help prevent loss. The lanyard itself only very slightly affects the removal of the lens hood. I would definitely recommend this cap to anyone looking for a replacement for the OE one.
    Cheers,
    Steve

N.B. Just found another clever little feature on what at the end of the day is just a humble lens cap. This version has two threaded areas on the lens contact points on the pinch levers. These locate into the filter thread and allows you to gently tighten the cap onto the lens making it more secure and possibly more dust and water resistant. Clever or what!

    Thanks for this.

I don't have the 12-40, but all my other Olympus m4/3 lenscaps have that wee thread in the pinch bit to allow for slight tightening.

Indeed so has the OE 12-40 cap!
