  • OpTech Pro or Other strap Recommendations

I am finding my camera with the 50-200 fitted pretty heavy on the neck and have decided to try a third party strap (though I do like to advertise I'm using Oly gear!).

I have been reading some web reviews and have found the Optech Pro and Pro loop are generally well liked. Advanced Photographer had a strap test this month but the OpTech was not included. Is there anybody here with any good, or bad, experiences with these straps? If you have any other positive recommendations I would also be interested in hearing them (though as I tend to keep my QR plate fitted all the time I will probably not be too keen on one using the tripod mount hole).

    Many thanks.

I use OP/TECH single and at times double camera straps ( I have two camera bodies) and find both systems very comfortable.

OpTech Pro straps are fine - if you like a neck strap, which I don't. I prefer the Y Strap, though I will concede that using one with a 50-200 is perhaps a bit much. I tend to just carry my camera in my hand or in a courier-style bag.

I use the Optech Pro no complaints with it at all, more comfortable than standard straps and the quick release is handy when you don't want the full strap dangling around everywhere.

Re: OpTech Pro or Other strap Recommendations

Another thumbs up for Op Tech gear, I have one on both of my bodies and have just bought a sling strap to try out.

One of the selling points for me are the reporter backpack straps, these clip to your photo backpack shoulder straps and allow you to connect the camera via the quick connectors. Meaning the weight is transferred to your shoulders instead of your neck. Obviously it's only any good for those that use a photo backpack, which I do while away etc.

There is a wide range of options on their website.

Re: OpTech Pro or Other strap Recommendations

I've also useOp Tech straps and find them very comfortable. Currently I'm using it in conjunction with Camera Buddy from 7dayshop that allows it to sit comfortably across my body and keeps the camera safe. Not sure how that would work with the E3 and 50-200mm. If you would be interested in that my husband would try it on his E3 and 50-200mm.

Re: OpTech Pro or Other strap Recommendations

I'm still looking for the grail when it comes to quick release straps. I'd love a system enabling me to not faff with nylon straps when I want to switch from neck strap to hand grip. However, the fact the Olys are supplied with a bar and not loops means it's harder to find a quick release system where the bar remains free. All the quick release systems I see leave a small length of nylon strap on the bars, the rest being connected via plastic snaps.

Does anyone know of a true quick release system that works with bars?

Re: OpTech Pro or Other strap Recommendations

Gents and Amanda, thank you for your views and comments. I have now ordered a Pro Loop strap (so hubby doesn't have to trial it for me on his E3 - but very kind of you to offer Amanda).

Jason I am quite keen on giving the backpack straps a try but can't fully understand how these will work with the pro loop fittings that come with the strap I have ordered. Also, how do you find the practicality of disconnecting the camera each time you need access to your backpack?

I use the Op Tech QR strap in conjunction with the Oly GS-3 hand strap. I leave the hand strap perminantly fitted to my E3 + HLD4 and have attached the short QR loops from the Op Tech to the camera body on the left (as viewed from behind the camera) side. on the right hand side I ahve threaded the Op Tech loop through the buckle of the HLD4.

I find this works well, allowing me to remove (all but the short loops) the neck, shoulder strap or what ever else I have attached and use the hand strap.

I hope this makes sense but am happy to post pics if required.

Basically the short pro loops fittings remain on the camera body, thus allowing you to attach a variety of straps etc.

On the backpack I have attached the Op Tech straps to the shoulder straps so that when worn they are the correct height connect to the camera. As you spotted you do need o remove the camera before taking off the bag however I do not find I need to do this often, especially if I can persuade my wife to get things from the bag while I am wearing it.

Hope this helps and once again happy to post pics if required.

Here you go, and a few of the backpack strap setup.

Please excuse the quality but I think they get the message across.

Thanks for the detail and pictures Jason. It looks like it might have some merit as I use my backpack a lot. Will investigate further once my strap arrives.
