Anyone any experience with hahnel batteries? Considering getting the HLX-OX1 which is apparently equivalent to the BLX-1. Not had particularly good results with 3rd part batteries in the past but needs must.

I gave up on 3rd party batteries some time ago - they never seem to have the same capacity as the originals and I've had a number of them swell up making it impossible to put into the camera. My vote would be to stick with the OEM ones and live with the price!

It's not the price! The ones I'm looking at are on a par or only slightly cheaper. It's the blooming availability. I've finally managed to get a grip for my OM-1 but the OEM batteries are even more rare and doesn't look like they are going to be in stock any time soon.

After purchasing a Hahnel battery, I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole.

Any specific reason Dave? The issue I have is there is o real alternative at the moment.

Ray, it was dead on arrival and wouldn’t hold a charge. In fact totally useless.

Maybe the quality has improved since but I’m not inclined to find out.

    Hope that you find something.

Not good. If I get one it's going to be from a shop (probably LCE, Exeter or Taunton) in person so hopefully a fighting chance. In any case I'll get a BLX-1 when they eventually become available.

I’m sure that LCE will remedy any failure, I bought mine via Amazon.

    Fingers crossed

I used Hahnels with the E-1, E-3 and E-5 interchangeably with the Oly originals. I had no problems with them, and didn't notice any differences in performance or capacity. Of course, that doesn't mean that the same still applies, but if I were going to try a 3rd party battery I would happily give the Hahnels a go.

Hahnel are OK but typically a bit less capacity than the original (a bit model dependent). They are amongst the better of the clones in terms of cell quality and construction. Crazy Dave - all manufacturers can spit out a runt - I had an Olympus original which did exactly the same thing.

Well I've bit the bullet and got one. Camera recognises it, which is always a good start. I'll stick it on charge overnight and see how it goes.
