  • SRF-11 - is there a 3rd party version of this?

    Hi everyone

    I hope everyone's well :-)

I've been trying to find the macro ring flash kit for the Olympus E-PM1 i.e. the SRF-11 kit.

To date I've not had much luck... either way too expensive originals, with expensive shipping & import tax, etc. or some putative compatibles that come up in searches, but don't explicitly state they'll work with the E-PM1 :-(

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    How about a Godox?

They seem competitively priced on your favourite on line retailers site! I'm guessing that it'll be a manual only system, but that's not a bad thing!

      Hi Walti

Thanks for this. Soooo.... they don't have to communicate with the camera per se - like the FL-14, for example? Right! That puts a whole new light (pardon the pun) on the matter.

      OK. Shall investigate further.

I've got the Mecablitz 'ring flash' and find that it works well:

It's compact and light - especially with lithium cells.

I don't think that it's current, but they turn up on ebay sometimes.

Well have you though of using an ordinary flash and a homemade diffuser on an ordinary flash much better than a ring flash anyway IMO. I used a Nissin di 466 but any flash you have will work

You can also fit a flash on a bracket wired with a diffuser

Then there is the STF-8 but i would want to try it first to see if it works

These were taken with the options above probably the flash on the bracket

I had a SRF-11 and brilliant it was too.

But I've given up flash, who needs it when results like this can be achieved with natural light.
