Why don't you look into selling the E-510 and get an E-3, you can still register for the free grip until the 31st March aswell.

I am sure you will have no problems selling the E-510 either here or on eBay.

Hi.

On the 3rd party grip, heard they are pretty well built and for the E-510, you have to plug the extra wire into the USB for full 1/2 press AF functions as well as the additional 2 pieces of BLM-1.

Sadly they do not have any for my E-330.

I understand the grip you refer to does use Olympus BLM-1 batteries. In fact using different battery clips you can use a variety of batteries, including AAs. I have had several positive reports about the grip. It connects via the E-510's USB port using a short cable and looks like it offers good functionality and features.

I bought it last year and was really pleased until about two months after I purchased it the E-3 came on the scene which really vexed me because had I known I would have waited and bought that instead.

It's a pain when this happens, but the E3 was the worst kept secret/longest coming camera in the history of photography
I suppose the thing to remember is that
a) your E510 takes as good a picture today as when you bought it, and
b) the E520 will be along any minute.

It was an option Jim but I'm in the middle of building a photographic gallery in Eyemouth and its taking all my money at the moment but I will probably get the E-3 a bit later in the year or maybe even wait a while and see what happens in a few months time. I am however going to get the grip because the camera does feel a bit small in hand at times.

Personally, I prefer the (relatively) small size of the camera on its own. However, I can see how it helps shooting portrait format. I'll see how I get on when I get the HLD2 for my E1 (sound of panting in anticipation...) before I buy an Ownuser.

As DTD says, not only will the E520 be along soon, but so, in all probability, will be the E4! E3 bargains will then be widely available...
