  • Cuba 61 - Bring a torch

The pavements, more or less everywhere we went, were less than adequate by UK standards. The number of locals and tourists sporting arm slings was notable, but it was not difficult difficult to see why. These were 2 of the worst I spotted, but you need to watch where you're going all the time, not so easy with a camera in your hand, and bring a torch if you intend to go out at night!

This hole was located on the curb just where you would step off to cross the road, probably 3' deep.

Missing manhole and drain covers are the norm too!

Reminds me of walking around Athens at night. There, though, they are deliberate holes - like a drainage ditch (concrete) about 40cm wide and over 2 metres deep along the side of an unlit street - without any guard rails, on the side away from the carriageway. And that in the Kifissia district, where the rich people live. I and my colleague only discovered it in daylight next day....after we'd walked along that street in pitch dark! Still, if you're lucky, you get over these things, don't you?

    Interesting reportage though.

Blimey, and we think our pot holes are bad!

I see the locals don't waste the space.
