This Sulphur Crested Cockatoo was hoping for a feed & with my 60mm macro lens on I got this shot (slightly cropped).



When he felt uncomfortable with me approaching (without food) he moved further away so I got out the big gun out (50-200 SWD lens) & got this shot (also cropped a little).



Both images were processed in Capture One 8 & resized in OV3.

Yes, they're nice, up to a point, except when they chase the other birds off & chew things they shouldn't.

Thanks Mike. They can do an amazing amount of damage too, especially when a flock of them descend in the yard. They can prune most of the growing tips (& more) off a tree very quickly, strip patches of bark off trees, break TV antennas & chew house timbers & fittings etc. Thankfully they don't do that all the time & I did have a pair that hung around a lot of the time (when I kept putting food out on a more regular basis) & often if I get a visit from the King Parrots they seem to show up from nowhere as well as soon as the food is put out. Actually, I can hear them in the distance right now (probably pestering someone else for food ).
When we were part of the local wildlife rescue (more than 25 years ago now) we were advised not to try & save the life of a cocky if injured but to euthanise them instead because of increased numbers due to human intervention in the food source.

I don't hand feed these birds either (I have tried a couple of times) as they aren't content to just take the food but test the fingers too.
