E620 function button/depth of field preview

I have had my 620 for a few days now. It's a long time since I have had an slr to play with, and with this one you certainly need to read the manual!

One thing I haven't worked out is:-

The manual (and several reviews) say that while there is no depth-of-field preview control as such, you can obtain a preview by assigning that function to the "function" button, and then pressing the "function" button. But no-where in the manual can I find instructions as to how to actually do that (or assign anything else to that button). There is something about pressing the function button and shutter release at the same time, but when I do that all that happens is that the shutter fires!

What am I missing?

Yes but that just says you CAN assign face detect or d-o-f preview or whatever to "Fn" but doesn't tell you how to do it.

Am I missing something?

The Olympus manuals are not the easiest in which to find what you want to know. I have found it useful to download the pdf version so that I can use the search function of Acrobat Reader.

Indeed I have added bookmarks and hyperlinks to my E-520 manual to aid navigation. Pity Olympus did not do this
