Walking down this street the guy in the wheelchair sees me with the camera and wants me to take his picture. I oblige assuming he wants the usual 1 CUC and give him the cash. But he insists that I come over and he is desperate to see the photo and gets me to zoom right in on his stump and he sits there marveling at it. Once he is satisfied we shake hands and I move along....
Such an interesting encounter simply cannot go undocumented. There is so little rubber left on the wheels, I can imagine the sound of metal on stone as he moves along.
An unfortunate tradegy but great story of human friendship between photographer and subject if only for a brief time.

I imagine life is tough for him and he is in desperate need of a new wheelchair, but for all this he looks happy.

"A hundredth of a second here, a hundredth of a second there even if you put them end to end, they still only add up to one, two, perhaps three seconds, snatched from eternity." ~ Robert Doisneau
Certainly can't have anyone to push the wheelchair - no handle. So I guess he wheels himself around. I imagine he was glad of the coin, and probably of your interest; but I wouldn't really say that he looks happy. I expect that encounter made his day in probably a pretty mean existence.
Sometimes when I've taken a shot of someone with their consent, I've asked for their email and sent it to them. Though in this instance I doubt the subject has email.
