  • Cuba 50 - Dawning light in B+W

Shot around dawn in Havana with the EM1 and P7-14mm one quiet (and cool) morning.

    Behind the Gran Theatro

    Pelican Crossing (in the sky!)

    Street lights.

    Dog turd and red light.

Converted to B+W using the DXO Film Pack.

Seeing the streets deserted, and in B&W, creates a whole new mood. The dog turd on the pavement is one thing that has the depressing familiarity of home. I hope you found it before it found you!

John, nice to hear from you! Poop-a-scoop is unheard of in Cuba and most dogs roam free. With 30 plus degrees of heat they do firm up quite quickly, but best avoided!

Sounds like a great business opportunity for a shrewd entrepreneur - or do the Cubans already get enough s**t from their government!

I'm sure if there was money to be made from it someone would snap it up!

Oh there's no doubt about that, I'm sure they would grab the "opportunity" with both hands!

Thanks for the comment Alf, what do you think is lacking in the 1st?

The angle/lean is not doing it for me but its probably mostly that next to #2 it just loses out.

Now you mention it, it does have a certain camber to it!

Nice, moody captures. #2 and #3 are my favourites.

I like the change of mood very much. Those street lights in #4 are almost identical to the ones on the promenade in Douglas, IoM! (Do you think they stole them from there...?)

If #1 were straightened (horizon) and a bit - not too much - perspective correction, it would also be a very nice shot. Also #4 could do with some perspective correction.

                        #3 does it for me.
                        Thanks.

Thanks for the comments Keith, all advice gratefully received! I may have another play with those 2 in due course.
