    This woman sat in the same position for more than 48hrs outside an unused shop front. She looked quite unwell and very sad. My wife gave her some food and some money, but she seemed unmoved. A very sad sight.

    I guess that welfare in Cuba is far short of what we have here, even with the budget cuts. A difficult picture to take (as in emotionally difficult) so well done for taking it. It's a story that needs to be told.

      Yes, for a socialist / communist country there seems to be a mindset change towards the selfishness seen more often in the capitalist countries of the west. It is obvious the gap between rich and poor is very large. Who knows what the future will bring for them. Some younger Cubans I spoke to said there could be a 2 speed economy with older people having to wait for the benefits as not everyone could have an increase of living standards at the same time! Obviously they did not want to wait themselves.
