Travelling west on Motorway No. 4 out of Havana, quite an experience! We took a taxi to Vinales for a few days in the country. The motorway traffic was light, the condition of the road very poor in places and the driver had to contend with various hazards including cows in the road, potholes and an assortment of slow traffic; bicycles, horses, tractors and ox carts. Hiring a car is quite easy in Cuba and driving, outside of the cities, quite reasonable. What put me off was even a minor accident can take some months to sort out the paperwork and during that time you are relieved of your passport. Not necessarily a problem but I was worried about running out of memory cards!

    Traffic was light.

Road side sellers frequent, chicken anyone?

    Motorway Services.

Sardines. There were 3 girls and the driver sat in the front of this jeep, with no seatbelts and no doors!

New arrivees had to make their way through the various sellers....

...can you imagine the panic this knife seller would cause in the UK!

Genuine cattle class, but cheap transport!

    Potholes and horses.

If you need a pee, then just stop and take one.
