Marsh Harrier

I spotted this male Marsh Harrier on my way home from work today. He was kind enough to keep on hunting for a few minutes within shooting range (starting around the 75m mark and as close as perhaps 50). He was eventually rewarded with a mole, unfortunately the pictures with the catch did not come out sharp. Too bad.

Some air distortion is visible but these ones deserved to be shared I think.

I have intentionally preserved some picture elements in the background to give an idea of the scenery. The road in the background is the junction from Malmö harbour leading to the E6, the major artery connecting Scandinavia to the european continent. Concrete jungle starts less than 500 m from my position, in between us is this semi-wild marsh. And on a side note I spotted an Osprey at the same place, shortly after this sequence, truly fantastic.

SW80 600mm
~50% crops of EM5 frames @500 ISO, 1/1250s (I could perhaps have pushed ISO higher)

Thanks for looking,
Tord

Re: Marsh Harrier

A great catch! The last 3 are probably the best of the above but the first 2 show the context of the location. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Marsh Harrier

A nice sequence of events... would have liked to have seen the swag even if it was a wee bit blurred. As said, the background and your description of the location give a better understanding of the what and the where.

Hi Wally,

I am afraid I have already discarded and deleted the bad shots, sorry for that.

To work-around for this I can share some other shots taken a couple of weeks ago from a location nearby. I missed the kill but got some decent one of the hunter and prey:

Thanks,
