  • Site outage and TapaTalk

A very big sorry from me this morning as the site has been down for around an hour. I have been (still am as I type this) in direct contact with your hosting company throughout.

The primary suspect is our TapaTalk plug-in. The TapaTalk service is basically overloading the e-group every morning from around 9AM for around 15 minutes but today was much worse. If I can't get a fix in place by tomorrow morning I may have to disable TapaTalk at around 8AM for a limited time.

Once again sorry for this inconvenience - we are working on solving this for good.

All the sites are on one physical server these days but the excessive load was on the e-group TapaTalk plugin that enables the TapaTalk service to communicate with the forum. We also use TapaTalk on the other two forums but the problem, so far, seems focused on the e-group. Basically, the e-group brought the whole server and the other sites down with it.

We are still waiting for a fix to the TapaTalk issue that has been causing server overloads every morning for the last few weeks. So as explained yesterday, TapaTalk was disabled this morning. I'm pleased to say that the server did not experienced the usual massive spike in load.

There is still work to be done and I'm in touch with TapaTalk and hopefully I won't need to suspend TapaTalk service each morning for much longer.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding if you are a TapaTalk user.

One thing to note is that the forum is now smartphone and tablet-friendly, so in a way there is less need to use TapaTalk here as there once was

I don't think that the TapaTalk client displays forum notices. There have been notices displayed on the forum regarding TapaTalk service interruption (explained further up on this page).

As we don't yet have a fix for the TapaTalk problem that causes an overload of our server each morning, I am forced to disable TapaTalk support for a couple of hours each morning between 09:00 and 11:00.

We are working on fixing the problem but it's late on Friday so it may mean we'll have to wait until next week for a resolution.

In the mean time please do try the forum on your smart device using a standard web browser; the new forum works a lot better than it used to on small screens.
