Once the image is uploaded you will be offered a selection of size options for the image to be placed in your post at the position of the edit cursor/caret. You no longer need to crop your images before uploading, though very best quality will likely be preserved if you do. It's up to you.
I've just tried this with quite a small image from my own computer and got a message that "Upload failed due to your usergroup's upload quota. This file will require 697.8 KB but you only have 14.8 KB of 488.3 KB remaining."

is this a bug or am I missing something?

Good work Ian, a much nicer, more modern look and feel, but it will taked a bit of getting used to as many things aren't in the old familiar places! I found a "go to first new post" icon (the down-pointing arrow next to the thread title on the recent posts page, but there doesn't seem to be one once you start viewing the thread) but there doesn't seem to be the old "today's posts" quick link any more. It would be nice to have the quick previews back too, inasmuch as it used to be possible to read the first few lines of a post just by hovering over the title which was a great time saver. I'm sure most of the old features are here somewhere, I'll keep exploring! The alfaowner.com forum just had a major overhaul too, but without all the early warnings so it was a shock to be confronted with it on my return from hols. They've changed to a completely new platform and got a lot of flak from head-scratching users! After a couple of weeks though I'm used to it, and I'm sure it will be the same with this one as we all settle into it.
        Regards
        Richard

Thanks Richard. Unfortunately, the tools for customising the forum are obsolete so couldn't be carried over. We've stuck with vBulletin (skipping v4 to v5) and it's better than its detractors would have you believe, but there are significant differences. Hopefully you will get used to it 😊

I suspect the alfaowner.com bods switched forum platforms - an even bigger job with more potential incompatibilities.

Thank you for all your hard work. After twelve years using the old site it will take some while for my brain to catch up with the new one.

How can I have become a 'splendid one to behold' I wonder?

I'm on the same distinguished road but it states Ian is " A splendid one to behold" and Shenstone "Will become famous soon enough" so I couldn't possibly comment

The bars are 'reputation' 😅 I'll go into that into more detail later 🤭

I'm at my daughter's at the moment ferrying her Christmas tree. But now the forum is smartphone friendly I have one less excuse not to keep an eye on things here!👀

I just did a short reply and that was OK. My original problem may have been because the buttons were off the screen, down below.
