  • Welcome to the new forum

Here we are at last - a bit longer than expected but we got there in the end.

There is plenty more to do at my end but the basics are now in place.

    STARTING POINTS

    1. PHOTOS IN POSTS:
To upload a photo, look for the 'paperclip' button at the right side of the post editor. Once pressed you will see text buttons for uploading attachments under the text entry area and to the left. You can upload from a URL or from your computer or other device.
Once the image is uploaded you will be offered a selection of size options for the image to be placed in your post at the position of the edit cursor/caret. You no longer need to crop your images before uploading, though very best quality will likely be preserved if you do. It's up to you.

    2. MOBILE PHONES AND TABLETS:
The forum is now 'display size responsive' - the forum will adapt itself to fit smaller device displays to maintain legibility and ease of use. It should now be possible to use smart device keyboard emoji characters.

    3. MESSAGES:
Private messaging is now just called 'Messaging' and an applet will pop-up for more conversational text-style messaging.

4: LIGHT AND DARK DISPLAY MODES:
Look at the bottom left of the page for a brief pop-out selector offering Light and Dark style modes. Dark mode has been very popular on other sites I manage.

    5: NAME TAGGING:
If you know someone's user name and type it with an '@' before the name (no space) that user's name will pop-up, you can select it and that user will be alerted to your post. It looks like this, with a small avatar, if the user has one: Ian

    6: POSTING VIDEOS:
To do this use the large 'chain link' button next to the camera icon (more on that later) to attach a video to your post using its Web address (url) from another site, like YouTube.

    7: COMMENTS IN POSTS:
You can now comment at the bottom of someone's post instead of having to create a new post at the bottom of the thread. This is really only for short and quick comments, conversational in style.

    THERE WILL BE BUGS!
I apologise in advance if you discover situations where something clearly doesn't work the way it ought to. Please provide details in this thread or by forum message and I will fix it as fast as possible.

If you need advice or help about any aspect of the new forum - again, please post here or in a message and I'll do my best to help.

I will expand on the new features and differences between the old and new systems in due course over the next few days.

    Thank you for your patience!

      KNOWN ISSUES
      • Signature pictures are not showing - all you see is the word 'sigpic' (partially fixed)
      • Signature text is a bit too small
      • Some smilie icons are not showing (FIXED)
      • Dark/Light display selector not showing (FIXED)
      • Header logo size misbehaving (FIXED)
      • Go to last read instead of latest post not implemented
      • Likes reset - sorry, nothing can be done about this but will increment from now on
      • Members who liked can't be identified - (not a bug - you can see who liked by clicking on the number of likes in a post; enhancement to this under consideration)
      • No Thanks option - (Sadly the add-on we had previously could not be carried forward, we are considering alternatives)
      • Sticky threads on the forum home page don't stay stuck (We are looking at a work around for this, but they are highlighted)
      • Avatars - there is some inconsistency in displaying avatars that worked before (I believe this has been fixed)

A more modern look - though I wouldn't blame anyone for missing the familiar old view.

I cant see the Dark Mode button at the bottom of this or any page. I tried selecting it in my account settings but still no change.
I am running Safari on my iMac.

It does work on the Four Thirds User site so perhaps it's not enabled yet?

Ian no locations showing on 2 android devices/Chrome browser, and 1 Win10/IE browser.

No obvious way of replying to your comment, other than also commenting on my own post,, so don't know how this will display until I hit the Post button.
