  • Email notifications - some may experience problems

If you have email notifications set up on the forum and gallery here on he e-group, unfortunately, some of you may not be receiving them at the moment. We are aware of the problem and are working to fix it as soon as possible. At present it looks like Microsoft mailboxes (outlook.com, hotmail, etc.) are mainly affected but mac.com mailboxes may also be affected.

    Apologies for this!

    Ian

PS, if anyone is experiencing a problem with a mailbox service that is not Microsoft-hosted, please let me know via [email protected].

PS - if anyone is using a mac.com mailbox, could I try sending you a test mail?

    Thanks,

Thanks to Stephen, looks like Apple-hosted mailboxes (mac.com, icloud.com, etc.) are not affected and neither are Google Mail (gmail, etc.) mailboxes.

Update - notification emails to hotmail, live.com and outlook.com mailboxes should now have been reaching you once again for several days now but you may find that they are going straight into your junk mail folders. We are trying to get this resolved but one solution is to mark these emails as safe via the online mail client for Microsoft hosted email accounts.

Re: Email notifications - some may experience problems

Well we had a problem with a forum account being abused resulting in large numbers of spam emails being sent by this account. As soon as we realised this we closed the account and deleted the backlog of emails. We are only aware of Microsoft hosted mailboxes blocking our mail server in response - GMail and others seem fine, but Microsoft now seem powerless to revert our status to 'trusted' even though the problem has been fixed and we have notified them. In fact I found their response lacking in a sense of responsibility (this problem affects both us and any of you who use Microsoft Hotmail, Outlook.com, Live.com, etc. mailboxes). They say that there automated security systems will eventually recognise that we are OK but they can't do this manually.

I find that most unacceptable and therefore I am asking you all, if you have one of these accounts registered on our site, to consider switching to a different public mailbox host (GMail, Yahoo, etc.)

I will be sending out an emailed newsletter later today - I just hope not too many will go undelivered or diverted to junk mail folders by Microsoft systems.

May Microsoft are using a third part block list so they will have no influence on its content.

Maybe worth testing if the IP address of your email server is in the spamhaus black list.

              http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/

If it is, there will be help on getting it removed.

No, I did all that last week - we are not blocked by any third party spam lists that I know of, including Spamhaus, and we're not even blocked (as in bounced) by Microsoft's spam list any more (we were originally), but our emails seem to be going direct to the recipient's spam box.
