Re: Forum upgrade and closure of the gallery

Ian, a general question re. photographs if I may.

Are submissions limited to snaps taken on M4/3 gear or can any equipment have been used?

As long as the images are pertinent to the topic of the thread and the site's overall subject focus, there isn't a particular restriction.

I fully agree on general topics. Competitions are IMO a showcase of our cameras and I think we should keep the rule of Olympus cameras there

Of course - I thought this was obvious.

The question was general and I provided a general response.

The increased flexibility of image posting on the new forum will mean everyone can post images from a greater variety of sources but they do need to be specific to the requirements of the topic.

Challenges and competitions should remain specific to Olympus gear (Olympus cameras and/or lenses - use of third party lenses should be permitted in certain circumstances when used with an Olympus body and vice-versa, unless the purpose of the challenge or competition is more specific - in which case the conditions should be set out clearly).

But I do hope that everyone can use the richness of their image generation tools to help the discussion of all Olympus gear and associated events and software.

I have no objections to the use of a smartphone shot of a camera or lens to contribute to a discussion. Phone screen shots of apps, like OIS, in work are welcome. Desktop computer screen shots, pdfs, etc. - all welcome.

In fact I don't see the basic policy of this site changing, it's just that it will be easier than ever (no pre-editing required) to post images.

One improvement I would like to see on the new site is the message displayed when one logs out. It really should say "All cookies crumbled"

              Cheers,

We continue to be blessed by a number of generous donors who use the donation link on the front page of the site. All donors, no matter how much or little they donate, are very much appreciated.

However, even not counting my time, the site still requires more than it earns via donations. The long term aim is for the site to be self-financing.

I'd like to take this opportunity to address one particular person, who I don't believe is a member, but has persistently spammed the site with fake registrations that include comments that abuse myself and the moderators.

This person seems to think I'm somehow profiteering from the site. The reality is that running my online ventures at the moment is not making any profit. I'm taking time to restructure and rethink how to run these sites and rebuild my business. I'm doing it mostly by myself and it takes time. Thankfully, I have a very understanding wife and she is working very hard to maintain our situation. We are comfortable, but the E-Group is more of a labour of love than a business.

                          HI Ian

Its sad that you have to put up with such behaviour, but it seems to be the way of online things these days.

The sad thing is that Olympus stepped away from supporting the site directly. We are an incredible advocate and support organization for their cameras - worldwide despite the name. I can only hope that someone from Olympus realises this and steps back in

As soon as we've finished the modernisation we will be in a much better position to seek revenue-earning deals with other companies like Olympus.

So that's my focus for now.
