Fascinating, thanks Jason. You have put all that practising in the streets of Manchester to very good use!

From a land where a common refrain is "too many people", I give you too many photos. All taken with the E-M1 mk 2 and 12-40

For the following photos, I'm grateful to my friend's wife who took us in her car and showed us around. My holiday was in Shanghai, but Luzhi is really in Suzhou.

What we liked the about the place? Sure, it can be quite Disneyfied in the manner of the Chinese tourist industry, but get off the beaten path and you soon hear the sounds of Mahjong, singing, and see the hot water sellers* at work.

The Chinese take their photography rather seriously, so there is a beautiful photographers' hotel. We popped in to ask if they were taking foreign guests (not to be taken for granted - a licence is required for that) but sadly not at this time.

My hosts, at the photographers' hotel:

From inside a lovely restaurant (with the aid and an FL-36 and diffuser).

And with it being a national holiday, lots of people around in traditional dress.
