So, I finally had a little more (ish) success with hi res mode after it turned out my first attempt was poor to say the least. The scene I photographed can be seen in this link to a (none Olympus) photo I took in December:
I have to say I do prefer the composition of the above (and Capture One does amazing things with Sony raws). I've included it here for reference because there are, I think, elements of that structure that I think could be mistaken for artefacts.
For the Olympus, first we have the 50MP OOC JPEG, cropped 16:9 and adjusted in Photoshop.

Looking at the 80MP file, I noticed the background behind the subject looked a little more blurry. Subtle DoF effects more apparent when viewing the image this large?
