I know nothing about birds (of any variety according to the missus)

Any help id'ing these ducks is appreciated.

These are both Mallard/domestic hybrids - of uncertain provenance.

            A.K.A. Mutant Mallards.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Mallards are the basic genetic duck, and can cross breed with most (if not all) other species. That, and the fact they are keen to muscle in on any available action, is the reason their hybrids are so often seen, especially where domestic/ornamental ducks are found (easy pickings!!).

I doubt it. Mallard are good eating (usually described as wild duck at the butchers) but teal and pintail are the best if you can get hold of them. You need one apiece for teal but most other ducks will feed two. They'll be on sale from 1st September when the season starts. Yum!
