  • Flowerpot Island

Flowerpot Island is an island in Georgian Bay, in the Canadian province of Ontario and is a part of Fathom Five National Marine Park. The island has a total area of 2 square kilometres (490 acres).
The name of the island comes from two naturally formed rock pillars on its eastern shore, which resemble flower pots.

The water of Georgian Bay is also beautifully clear.

The larger of the two pots also seems to have a man's face looking out over the water.

These are great natural sculptures! I like photo #2 - as if the rock is a guardian looking out to sea. The water is a gorgeous colour and sets off the scenery very well. Thanks for posting this series!

Very pretty Terry, I love the colour of the water, it looks so pristine.
      Nice set.

I meant to post a comment earlier on this. These are certainly lovely photos of this location. It looks like the pillar has had some added reinforcemeant around its base. Is this the case, because I wouldn't like to stand near it on a windy day?

When I was there in the mid 80's Park Canada (or someone else) had poured concrete on top of them. Maybe they've now reinforced the bases. I can't see much detail on this Blackberry screen to judge.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

I checked your full size image on the Flicker page & it looks like concrete has poured onto it & is lifting on top but also looks like some has be put into some of the crevices like a bricklayer would repoint (replace the morter in between) the bricks. I think it is something to be admired from a distance.
