How I wish a few more of the usual suspects were conspicuous by their absence.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your view, the prime candidate just continues to waffle against standing trial by public viewing.

I'm just thankful for small mercies.

There are several otherwise prominent MP's who seem to have been gagged for the duration, including Miss Numeracy herself, Dianne Abbott.

One can only conclude that those who are stage managing the show would rather keep certain members quiet lest they put their foot in anything - not that they could do much worse then their illustrious leaders.

I am also disappointed by the lack of coverage of the Lib Dems' who ought to be able to provide a safe haven between the Red Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

Corbyn has just announced that Labour will reduce ALL rail fares by 33% - seriously!

Everything else will be free apparently so I don't see why not.

I wonder whether ASLEF and RMT members will be contributing their salaries to the cause? It might save them from Corbyn's top rate of tax.

Haven't we got the highest rail fares in Europe?

                    Maybe so maybe not.
To turn the tables and using your standard response - proof?
Oh, and don't forget to explain how it is measured?

                    That said.

Can you tell me which Labour-supporting Rail Union starts their 30-day strike as of this week?

I really look forward to Nationalised rail, strikes will be endemic.

I wasn't making an assertion - I was asking a question. So I don't need to provide proof!

We have, but then most European railways are run by the state and heavily subsidised by the taxpayer. I don't think our railways have ever received the same level of subsidy as railways in mainland Europe, even under full nationalisation.

A lot more design and engineering work was done in house then, including the building of locomotives and rolling stock, which would probably distort any comparative figures. The loss of BREL was a great shame and very short-sighted in my view. The iconic Class 43/Mk3 HST sets which revolutionised our railways were probably the pinnacle of achievement. The fact they are still in front line service 43 years on is testament to the quality of design and engineering. Whether BREL could every have competed with the likes of Siemens, Bombardier and Hitachi Rail is und=certain.

I don't' know how our train crew's salaries compare with those in Europe. Drivers are very well paid here but other crew don't do so well.
