Indeed, but provided post or threads remain respectful, they should survive.

If we could keep things factual and honest in face of the deceit, the thread will become a beacon of light...

My thoughts exactly, Jax, so I've merged it with an existing thread.

                Phew, that's relief then!

Boris 'Pants-on-Fire' Johnson has given his 'cast iron guarantee' that access to the N.H.S. won't be on the table in trade negotiations with the U.S..

That's OK then. A politician has given 'a cast iron guarantee'.

When can we expect the Beeching closures to be reversed then? We were promised that in 1964 and it is now 2019.

Cast iron is brittle and quite easily breaks.

Indeed. Wrought iron is much more malleable and easily shaped to fit around their promises; but I doubt that many honourable members would have a working knowledge of metallurgy.

Yeah, 1960s - those were the days.

You could live like a king with half-a-crown in your pocket. Packet of ten fags, pint of beer, go to the cinema, and still have enough over for a woman afterwards!

And then there's that Richard II. Promised Wat Tyler to meet the peasants demands, and then reneging on them!

And you wouldn't offend the Women's Libbers by saying so.

I think that ship has sailed, Nigel. Or should I say, that train has left the station.

We could always have a Stainless Steel guarantee, but I'm not sure we can trust the Chinese, who now own it, with any political promises.
