  • Re: Political: We're doomed, Captain Mannering...

Poor little UK we are only the worlds 6th biggest market how can we possibly survive.

The EU get on so well with the US these days I am sure they will get a better deal, Junker will come to the rescue.

Of course we can and will survive, after all weren’t we the 4th biggest prior to joining the EU? (Or at least we’ve been going steadily down the rankings in recent years)

And if Corbyn wins нам нужно научиться говорить по-русски.

И это будет наименьшее из наших проблем!

I think the first of your sources sums it up nicely.

To the Brexit doom-mongers who predict financial ruin in the UK I would say; let he who doesn't use Amazon cast the first stone.

Amazon is already causing massive damage to the UK economy, and thanks to EU rules Amazon has to pay very little in the way of taxes here; yet the Remainers still think it is fine to use them!

Oh, sorry I forgot; Amazon gives a tiny smidgeon of its taking to good causes so we all think they are soft and cuddly.

But if all the likes of Amazon are doing is played no by the rules in place, is it any different to all the wealthy people paying accountants to optimise their tax affairs or David Beckham paying a lawyer to get him off a speeding charge. People will play whatever system is in place at the time to their best advantage, it’s the ordinary man that frankly can’t really do this or benefit enough from it. Best I can do is save a bit of money by using Amazon. I shouldn’t have to buy from a more expensive supplier just because Amazon are playing the tax system.

If you look around you will often find that Amazon is one of the most expensive places to buy. The only goods that are cheap are those that cost nothing in the first place, so with the advantage of economy of scale Amazon can sell them cheaply.

Amazon is only thriving because we have collectively made the company what it is today. If we didn't buy they would have to change their ways, or else disappear.

On the subject of Beckham's speeding charge, I would do the same and have done so in the past. I was given a speeding ticket in Brighton with the wrong date on it so I pleaded Not guilty. The case was thrown out because the offence was not committed on the date claimed by the Officer. Thankfully I didn't drive through Brighton very often as I am sure my name would have been in Plod's little black book!

Jeremy Hunt got the message spot on today.

Cant find a more direct link.

But it must be true because it's on here as well.

Thank you. More than anything else the false use of statistics and blaming Brexit for everything is what really winds me up. I can accept valid arguments either way but "project fear" is recognised by most leavers as just daft. Leavers are not stupid, unlike what is claimed.

Sound fact based argument is what's needed, it is sadly lacking I am sorry to say..

I understood the problem was technical, as in manufacturing problems rather than political barriers.
