    Re: Anyone got a Yeti?

That's the one I have in mind, but obviously not at that price.

I'm ambivalent about the mpg as long as the short journeys aren't doing harm, as they will do on a diesel.

It's very difficult to find a 4x4 petrol these days. Everyone wants diesel. Except me.

      ... and me.

Diesel is perfect, apparently. Shed loads of torque, so good performance, and low consumption. Low pollution too (as long as you are not driving behind one).

However (speaking as an unreformed petrolhead) there's no drama to a diesel. Eventually we will all be driving diesel hybrids where the engine runs at a steady 2250 rpm and the gearbox shuffles up and down it's 11 gears. Mmm. Exciting :-)

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

I'd have considered a Scoobie. Except my back and knees have other ideas ...

They lent me a 2014 Legacy Diesel when mine went in for a service. Smooth and lovely in a dieselly kind of way, but about 3 inches higher than mine which makes it easier to get in and (IMHO) destroys the handling.

The thing about the Yeti is the insurance is the same as the Sportage. £210 comp with zero excess. It helps if you're old (ish).

I sometimes have to drive one of two Golfs. 2014 models over long distances. 1.4tsi and 2.0 tdi. I also test-drove a Yeti. Guess which was nicest to drive? And it doesn't begin with V.

Although I don't have one I know a number of people who have switched to them from far more expensive vehicles & are very happy with them.

Don't you get the Subaru Outback in the UK? They're higher. We don't get Skoda in Canada although we do get a few VW and Audi.

Diesel only. And still too low.

                        Re: Anyone got a Yeti?

Having driven many Scoobies over the years and owned an Octavia for several, I'm in no doubt which will last better and cost less to run. But I'm also in no doubt which will be the most fun. Sadly not the same answer.....

I think the Yeti is pretty much a modern take on the original Forrester, before the latter became a small truck (Subarus get bigger and bigger with each replacement model), and that's no bad thing.

Unfortunately there's no such thing as fun driving round here.

                            Re: Anyone got a Yeti?

I didn't even know Subaru made diesels. The only diesel I can think of currently on sale in Canada is the VW Passat.

Turbo diesels can be fun if you know how to drive a turbo.

I currently have a turbo diesel, and have owned and driven many since the Leyland Buffalo. But a diesel is no use to my present driving mode.

                                Re: Anyone got a Yeti?

It was the Subaru Forester I was thinking of with the higher roof line.

Diesels would make more sense in Canada given the distances involved in going anywhere. My old (V6 petrol) Ford Ranger had 330,000 kms on it when I sold it for parts.
