  • MZ 300mm f4.0 launch delayed

4/3 Rumors now reporting that the MZ 300mm f4.0 will not arrive until 2016.

Personally I'm disappointed with this news, I was looking forward to looking at this lens in the near future.

If the Panasonic 100-400 arrives before the MZ 300mm, I think Oly may lose a few sales.

Probably not a rumor, we are looking at 2016 I think. Rumor I heard was because of the demand for the 7-14mm PRO and the 8mm Fisheye is great, and those front elements are hand finished. There's only one factory, apparently producing the PRO lenses. That's the rumor I heard. This must have happened when they were promising and producing the 4/3 SHG glass too, maybe?

This quote from that rumour site may be worth noting too, as Simon has been correct so far.

Based on this I guess owners of the 7-14 PRO are just dreaming as that lens is also not planned to arrive until "after 2015". Sounds more like a translation problem that an actual change in release date

Re: MZ 300mm f4.0 launch delayed

Having worked in PR for a large technology company and therefore having been involved in many national launches over the years I would offer the simple suggestion that - it is very unlikely that more than a very few people in the company really know what is actually happening. And they are usually quite content to remain silent.

When the lens comes I expect it will be a good lens and a lens that I am hoping to get. However, it will also have a barrage of negative comments about being 'too expensive', 'the wrong specifications', 'not as good as...' and so on.

But rumours and gossip, alongside comments from everybody who has an opinion is becoming the norm.

And I have just added to it.. sorry

Glad I picked up a Nikon 300mm F4 PF at the weekend (weighs 750g). I'm going to try it on my EM-1 with a metabones adapter and see how it goes (MF only I'm afraid).

I am starting to think of just getting an OM 300mm F4.5 for now, or maybe for ever. Just not sure the 300 F4 would get that much use for the money spent....

The Panasonic is starting to look worth a try if it gets launched first.

Or there is the 4/3 150mm F2 & EC-20 which gives you 300mm F4 with very usable AF and sharpness is still very good.

                            It's actually 3 lenses in one, 150mm F2, 210 F2.8 with a EC-14 and the above.
