Maybe, you have to get the "miles/Shutter actuation's on the E5 in the Warranty period, in order to claim a repair".

I think, given the estimated 150,000 specified in the "blurb" manual/tech spec on line/launch info it should be repaired foc with only P&P charged under 75,000 or even 150,000

OR Maybe Olympus, like my Pottery Tutor says one thing not believing you would ever use it that much ... my potter said, "hourly rate is £36 until your making a thousand pots an hour ... " as the best potter at making the most an hour has the record of 175 pots an hour ... there is no chance of me getting anywhere near it

Nor 150,000 shutter actuation s on my E5 or any camera in 2 or even 3 years !

IN FACT someone ought to issue a writ for a TEST CASE against Olympus ! given the case of the "soap" marketing

I had the shutter fail on my E5 at 10400 shots and only 2 weeks out of warranty. Long story short with a few emails back and forth between Oly and myself I got it fixed for 150 euro.

I wonder whats the highest shutter count on an E5 thats on the original shutter?

I may indulge my own E-5.

All the 'My Set' settings were still intact too, so at least I don't have to go through that again

11834 it hasn't reset to zero - doh! But at least it works

There is only a 6 month guarantee on the repaired parts so fingers crossed once that runs out!

I checked the firmware version last night and it is showing 1.3, but I don't know what it was before the repair!

The E-5 arrived back yesterday with 5 faults fixed, 1 of which was service & cleaning, the shutter (or mirror box - they used the same terminology on my invoice?) was fixed (obviously), the mode button (I hadn't noticed anything wrong with that), Body Rubbers?? (The grips on the exterior don't look new, maybe this means the seals?) and the final one was software update.
Hopefully it will be good for a while longer now!

Bill and Iain how many has your camera clocked up each ?
My E-5 had about 20600 shutter actuations when it needed this repair. But from the repair detail, it did not look like they repaired the shutter - it said "mirror box". So I can't really feel short changed on the 150,000. Who knows - it may be the camera was internally damaged due to it falling over on a tripod not long before it failed (although it seemed OK at the time).

Iain, Thats DREADFUL I am sure that I read 150,000 robust build.

Pay it and take issue with Olympus !

Its very kind of you to inform others my own E-5s had 63,000 and 35,000 each and I sincerely hop the new owners get many more Shutter Actuations of them before SUCH A BILL ! When this Camera model was sold as a Pro DSLR.

Car manufacturers offer Warranty to miles/years.

They certainly do not build cameras bodies and Shutters to the past standards ... my OM s still work brilliantly (But I only use the lenses now) perhaps I shall invest in a roll of film again ... in Spring when the lights better ... and maybe there will be more than tonnes of water about ...

As promised here is the new address for the Olympus repair collection point:

    Olympus Imaging & Audio
    Rico Logistics - Olympus HUB
    Unit 48, Evelyn Street,
    Beeston, Nottingham,
    NG9 2EU

Thanks again to Jaroslav for excellent customer service and sorting this out, apparently DHL closed the hub earlier than anticipated!

Sound advice Derek, I have just spoken to another very helpful man, this time at Olympus, who told me that the DHL Hub that runs the collection point has moved to a new address! He was under the impression that the parcel should have been forwarded on, but has arranged for DHL to come and collect it direct from me
I didn't catch the chap's name, but he is going to e-mail me the new collection point address and I will post it here in case anyone is sending stuff away before they update the website.

    Getting there...
