Live view and IS amazes me!

Bit of a senior moment, I admit, I was shooting at the International Jaguar Spares Day at Stoneleigh Park and had not noticed that ISO was set to 200 not the 2000 I intended. Using live view, with all the mirror clattering I had not noticed that the mirror was up a lot longer than it should have been.

I have always been more than impressed with the IS on the E-3 and it seems the E-5 is even better. Of the 60 or so shots affected ranging from 1/2s to 1/8s exposure, all bar a couple were keepers and the rejects were due to subject movement, not the shakes!

This one is half a second (yes, 0.5s hand-held with live view) and while perhaps not absolutely pin-sharp is more than acceptable to me. It usually takes 1/125th to de-shake me, 1/250th if I have had coffee

I liked both of my E-3's a lot but I absolutely love my E-5! No PP other than levels adjust. The bike is a 1932 Norton and was sold during the show.

Is is fantastic. Ive done portraits at 8th of a sec, when I had Canon I never took it below 1/60th , sometimes I could get away with 1/30th, but not always

i take this photo with e-5+50-200+ec14 at 560mm freehand....and I.S. work fine because that day was 60Km\h wind

Jima, that looks good for half a second & shows the fidgeting hands of the spectator quite well.

Tommy, that looks a very nice sharp shot of the geese, but at 1/1600 sec, IS would not have had time to have any affect.

in theory what you say is correct but whit strong wind I can guarantee that the IS is fundamental whit a 560mm eq to avoid the micro movements of the body and lens, in this sense I say that the IS of e-5 is perfect. It can help the photographer not only in slow shot but also in particular situations when the instability is present. I think.... :-)

Well, it is certainly a lovely example of a beautifully sharp shot & I would tend to leave IS on too, but sometimes it can work against you if you lean your arms on something solid (like a fence) or other similar circumstances. I think it works best when the arms are free & without any bracing (including against the body), so I guess in your situation & as you say, for the longer focal length for this shot it probably helped, so I take back my first comment as I was forgetting about the multiplying effect with increased focal length.
