Just adding a few images so that the large difference in form and haptics can be visually appreciated, despite there not being a huge difference in weight or overall dimensions (the OM3 is wider - not really an issue at all for most, whereas the depth can be depending on use, far less pocketable). The difference in depth and the prism areas are obvious and large. When a lens is mounted it protrudes a little further forward allied to the EVF protruding a little further back. However the final image shows that, bar width, size-wise the OM3 falls between the OM5 and OM1.

Good that it looks like they have sorted out the weak tripod mount of the OM5 and E-M5 iii.
Not so good there isn't a wired remote release port, something I use a lot on all sorts and sizes of tripods/supports.
I did see they are selling some sort of remote, not sure how it connects and 89 quid.is a bit much.

If it's the same one that is available for the OM-1 then I have one which I picked up in a sale for much less than £89. It connects via Bluetooth.

Yes it looks like a huge difference right?! Though it is much larger (at least it feels that way holding my OM1 and OM5 in my hands - and the OM3 is pretty much a wider OM5) but that's not just the grip but the prism and EVF too. Pity they didn't have a display model when I was in the OM store today.

I handled both the OM1 and the OM3 last week. I found in the hand that both felt compact (but I'm used to a Panasonic S1
). The OM1 fitted the hand better and I thought offered significantly better ergonomics (location of controls, number of controls etc). The only area where the OM3 is better from an operational point of view is the dials - the OM1 with its half-hidden dials is just not as nice as the approach on the OM3. For sure the OM3 looks prettier, but I think the OM1 is a more practical camera (apart from the dials!).

Nowt wrong with the dials on my OM-1 Mk ll.......IMVHO

I ordered one on launch day. I had been waiting for something more nimble than my OM-1 for city breaks. I had been considering a second-hand Pen F (I sold one a few years ago - bad decision!). This seem to tack all the boxes and now it has arrived I am very happy. Having fewer customisable buttons than the OM-1 is an advantage (for me) in many ways.

Popped into Carmarthen Cameras today for a a hands on.
My current camera is an OM-1 Mk2
These are my observations for cosmetics and ergonomic over about 15 minutes.
Cosmetic.
It's a pretty camera, I suppose you could call it a lovesome thing.
Initially it called to me......I wanted to one....but read on.
Feels very well made.
The OMD rep said that a lot of people had said they would prefer black, me included.
Answer....Japan have said they may consider one if enough people are interested.
The base screws that a lot of people are complaining about is a storm in a tea-cup, not a problem for me.
Ergonomics.
Smaller and lighter than I expected.
The lack of a grip I found not a problem.
The colour control knob thingy on the front I found very intrusive, and I would NEVER use it.
The EVF very adequate.
Lack of a joy-stick a real deal breaker.
The D-ring or what ever its called for moving the AF target I found far too low, and did not fall easily under my thumb, reaching it was an effort.
Cost
Far too high....by around £300 IMVHO.
Conclusion.
Will I be ordering one.......NO.
Not even a grey one.
I'll stick with what Ive got.

For what it’s worth after two days I am happy with my upgrade from the Em5 iii , yes it’s the Om3.😀
I usually buy used but I decided otherwise.
I will say no more as modern cameras offer so much choice especially when you look at the back catalogue. What you choose has to suit what you feel is right and a good use of your savings.

I find that I naturally brace the camera between the thumb rest and the colour control knob and it gives a pretty good grip. The EVF is far from the latest, but in practice I don’t really find that to be a problem either.Originally posted by Dave in Wales View PostPopped into Carmarthen Cameras today for a a hands on.

Obviously this doesn’t apply to everybody.

I have no plans to buy the OM3. It is not because I do not like it. For now, I am still getting used to the OMD1 Mark 2 and I really need to buy a new MacBook on my next visit to the UK in May. I would like a longer lens than my current 75-300mm and other camera treats would be desirable.
Have a great weekend …..cheers
