here's the 60mm in a totally non-macro mode, shot from 3 rows behind the coach driver on a really foul trip back around the M25 a while ago

It does seem expensive for such a small thing but its beautifully engineered and I reckon its well worth the money.

(others may see it differently and prefer to go for a 3rd party equivalent and who am I to say they are wrong )
I haven't been able to get the Olympus hood here (in Australia yet), so I orded a few cheap screw in ones (including the rubber type) & this vented metal one is really quite good as it alloys the focus assist LED light to shine on the subject, plus it is quite solid. It is just a little awkward to remove & refit the lens cap, but that is a small price to pay for its usefulness otherwise. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayIS...E:L:OU:AU:3160

You're not going to like it when I tell you mine only cost A$426 after cash back (considering the exchange rate). I couldn't believe it myself that they would offer the cash back on the new lens (till the end of January 2013), but I'm a happy chappy. It's a great lens for a reasonable price!

Nope - a Kentish Man me but I've tended to move around the country with my work, came back "darn sarf" when I retired (after 24 years living in Chester)

How's this compare to 45mm for portraits

So you would be from 'Kentish Town' rather than from Kent? If you were from Kent you would be a 'Man o' Kent'!

Depends on which side of the Medway you come from - anyone born to the West of the Medway is a "Kentish Man" (or Woman, of course) and to the East you become a "Man of Kent".

As I come from the Kent / Sussex borders that makes me A Man of Kent (and proud of it, 'tothers are more or less from Essex! )

Rooky, to answer your question re: 60mm vs 45mm for macro, assuming you mean the two Oly versions, in my view they are comparable except for the focal length.

Both need to be handled with care if shooting woman or children as they can be a bit cruel because of the extreme sharpess / amount of detail resolved
