The new Olympus E-M1X is a “Canon 1DX level” camera. Has built-in vertical grip!

it is oriented towards serious sports photographers.

If this is confirmed I think my price estimate will need adjusting.

Hmm - since I don't do sports or wildlife, then this doesn't look like a camera for me (phew!). In any case, I really don't need a bigger m43 camera. The G9 is a monster IMHO.

Mmmmm - not sure about the built in vertical grip. Seems at odds with one of the major virtues of m43, as frequently mentioned by a variety of Olympus people, which is the size factor.

I am however intrigued by the hints of innovations. Olympus does have an excellent record of this even if the bulk of photography pundits seem to forget this.

As to price I sense already it is out of my reach even if GAS does strike. In truth of course GAS will most certainly infect me so my use of the word "if" is stupid!!

                Just a thought.

If there really is a little competition to guess the price of the new camera in this thread, should the Admin not now start to think about giving last chances to guess the price and then close the thread.
As more and more info comes out there is more likelihood of a price being leaked which would negate the whole thing.

I can't see any mileage in all this speculation
The market research, R&D and design is done, no-doubt pre-production units are circulating a 'special few' and when they release it - well... it will be whatever it is

I'm all for any innovation that helps nail the focus, be that tracking, joystick, AI, DFD, better interface, or something I can't guess. However I'm with Hec and I want it in an E-M5 sized camera and not an E-M1 (or E-M1X). Why does the flagship camera have to be the biggest one?

It does have an unfortunate side effect of building up GAS though.

If fear my investments will just go towards paper towels, to wipe up my drool.
I really hope I can afford the long zoom lens (when it comes) though.

                              Latest rumour

                              https://www.43rumors.com/ft5-confirm...built-in-grip/
                              E-M1X is 144.37 x 146.765 x 75.345mm

If this is a 1DX competitor it is smaller (158 x 164 x 83 mm) then there's the lens size comparison.
No matter it's bigger than I would ever choose and it's undoubtedly going to be much more expensive than I will choose so ... I'm out (not that I was ever really in!).

Would you have ever bought a 1DX anyhow though?
It does seem to be quite large, being 10mm wider than an E-M1 Mk II & 2mm wider than an E-5!

Olympus is said to be bringing a PEN-F Mk II as well next year (at least in Japan to start with), but I'm curious to know what their final plans for next year will look like now.

They are preparing for gear to be used at the Olympics in Japan so a serious sports camera is understandable.
It will have wifi & bluetooth with wifi triggered flash etc. as seen here & translated below.
