All in all yes in my opinion the AF is better in firmware v3.0.

First time out with it, here are some shots of a pigeon coming towards me to land the gallery link at the bottom, used the 9 box with center start, had the G9 until yesterday and it would have failed.

The bird is small deliberatlyto try to make it hard for the camera, no shots missed out.

Yeah, that first link seems to open up the Users Albums (mine for me), but thanks as that works now for Mik's photos.

Thanks, as i say the images are nothing to do with quality just how well the camera kept up with the small in the frame subject against such a busy background.

Re: So, is the AF better with firmware 3?

I had the opportunity to make another trip to Vegas. I needed to sell my remaining 4/3 lenses, and unlike the UK, I had to wait until a buyer came to town. The camera shops there can't, by law, sell used equipment, and therefore give you very, very low prices for used equipment. So after that adventure I wandered across town to the Air Force Base to see what was flying for the combined Red Flag And Green Flag exercises, and again see what firmware 3 has brought to the camera. Long story short I am still not disappointed. I have forgotten members concerns about tracking. Is it C-AF+TR that has been in the past not up to par? I gave up on that once I had heard it was more for focus and recompose, I never got that green square to stick on anything, especially not edge to edge. So what I tested this time was how the C-AF tracked. I used shutter priority, C-AF sensitivity -2, C-AF, all 121 point center start. The aircraft were landing to the south so I would position it on the left edge of the EVF and half press. The 9 pionts would flash in the middle then immediately pickup the aircraft and stay locked on to it as it move across the EVF and out of site. Helping factors...it is Nevada, and there were no clouds or anything to confuse the AF. Next test. as I said they were landing and taking off to the south, so the procedure on departure is to make a hard right at the end of the runway and head North. At this point they are at least 2 miles away. The 75-300mm got the plane in focus, (amazing), and I tracked them northbound, but maybe 25 feet in front of me are palm trees, (between me and the aircraft). Honestly I thought, no way, this camera will get the tree this C-AF sensitivity stuff is not going to work. Tracked the plane, tree got in the way and the plane was still in focus on the other side. That time I was using the same settings except I switched to the 5 focus points center priority.

What a strange idea. There is a camera shop near me with shelves of used cameras, and some in the window.
Some don't choose to sell used cameras, but there is no law telling them not to.

This is in the bird thread but apart from better tracking than the G9 has it deals with shots like this a lot better.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. It is what I MISS about the UK. Plenty of shops that took used equipment in part exchange, and sold used equipment.

I am limited here, Phoenix is 3 hours drive, and Las Vegas, where I go the most, is 2 hours. But because of a rather famous and televised Pawn shop up there selling used equipment is forbidden, so taking in used equipment is not profitable for them, for example, 50-200SWD...$35 is all they would give. However when a buyer from out of town comes in the rule does not apply. I still took a beating at $165, but the lens was showing signs of an internal issue, (possible short). Not sure if the selling of used equipment is within city limits or the whole area. No matter there is only one camera shop, and no brick and mortar store for used equipment.
