Personally, I would miss the VF-2. But if you don't need it, go for it. Check prices though as I think the E-P1 might be available for less.

Thanks Ian, my intention would be to invest in a fairly cheap body right now and to upgrade to something else m4/3 later in the year, I don't see my using the VF-2 right now but its something I'd like in the future.

I'd been looking at the GF1 but its very hard to buy new and also its quite pricey on the used market also, so I'd be intending the EP1 as a stop gap really before purchasing an EP-2 (3 maybe even! or GF-3)

The 17mm kit is the one I'm using right now, I got mine used.
I think it is really good as a tourist camera with that focal length, and also for indoor stuff : high ISO on mine is pretty good, and with F2.8 that's cooking.
The one thing that it cannot do is let me use my manual lenses 'cos it's got no EVF and the screen isn't good for me. I have other cameras for other jobs so I'm a bit spoilt for choice.
The e-P1 is definitely the best-looking of my bunch.
( I would NOT have one as an ONLY camera by the way.)

I have the EP1 which was originally bought to suppliment my E510 and now suppliments an E5. It's a lovely camera and all the control wheels fall just right (to my taste).

Personally I have never seen what is so bad about the 17mm - here is an example

Taken with a camera I just produced from my jacket pocket! This was taken at arms length from a low viewpoint and I believe would have been very difficult to get using a standard viewfinder

Talking about manual lenses I have very sucesfully used mine with Canon FD lenses,

Thanks folks, I think I'm going to pickup the EP1, it will be my only camera at the moment having shifted my Pentax DSLR gear as I really wanted something much smaller and all things considered the micro 4/3 setup seems to be the best Compact System for the moment!

Re: Anyone still using an EP1?

Final question, possibly not EP1 specific but maybe more micro 4/3 relevant, whats low light / night shooting like on one of these? I'm planning to use the 17mm and pickup the Panny 20mm pancake likely.

My main type of photography is landscapes and buildings, almost touristy shots sometimes I guess and I really like some of the night landscape shots I've seen, just wondering if the EP1 is suitable for this?

You might find this interesting Chris, some poor light / night images from Kirk Tuck's blog with the E-PL2 http://visualsciencelab.blogspot.com...r-trouble.html

Some of the shots were with the Panny 20mm others with the kit I believe.

For night landscape I'm sure the 17mm is better than the kit zoom ... although better than anything is a tripod.

Thats exactly what I told myself when I bought mine, but I never got round to it, and the Pany 20mm has probably now been superseded in my wish list by the lenses that might (or might not) be coming out next month
