Re: EM1 ac adaptor
I believe it's intended as an alternative power source to the batteries not a battery charger. The manuals for the adapter and grip do not mention battery charging.Originally posted by timboo View PostIve seen that olympus do an ac adaptor and noticed rhe grip supports it so my main q is when using the grip with ac will it charge both batteries when connected to the camera or just the grip?

Re: EM1 ac adaptor
Ah lol bit pointless then. My one niggle with the em1 then is that if u use both batteries every time they go flat u will av to remove ur grip unless just use the grip battery only suppose. I might do that insteadAll the gear no idea

Re: EM1 ac adaptor
The best way to use the batteries (for me anyhow) is to use the grip's battery first (which is the default setting) & then the one in the body. By having a 3rd spare battery the grip's battery can be replaced as soon as it is convenient after the power has switched to the body battery & then it can be used up until it then switches to the body (again) to continue shooting. A lot of shooting is possible with that arrangement.Originally posted by timboo View PostAh lol bit pointless then. Yeah good shout i was just conscious of the body battery getting little use and then it deterioating as a result.Originally posted by Ross the fiddler View PostThe best way to use the batteries (for me anyhow) is to use the grip's battery first (which is the default setting) & then the one in the body. Re: EM1 ac adaptor
That's when you make a point of swapping it out after every 2nd charge of the grip battery & that way each battery gets fully cycled with a full discharge & charge.Originally posted by timboo View PostYeah good shout i was just conscious of the body battery getting little use and then it deteriorating as a result.Ross "I fiddle with violins (when I'm not fiddling with a camera)". And you can change the order if it takes your fancy too.

Re: EM1 ac adaptor
Thanks think I will use one battery all the time now
grip attached - battery in grip
no grip - battery in body
I have not experimented with very long exposures at night so can't see me needing both at once.
Thanks for everyone's input very interestingAll the gear no idea

Until the time you take the grip off, rush out to get that shot and then realise you forget to put a battery in the body .... not IF but WHENOriginally posted by timboo View PostThanks think I will use one battery all the time now

Re: EM1 ac adaptor
Having both batteries, using the grip battery first (so long as you like using the grip) is much more reliable, but the camera battery needs to be checked it is fully charged if on a day's shooting for it to give the longest battery capacity. That's why periodically swap them around. I always use both batteries when gripped (which is most of the time) because the first battery might go flat during a shoot sequence & having the second one to automatically continue with is a much better method than stopping to make that battery swap.Originally posted by timboo View PostThanks think I will use one battery all the time now
